Ghana, officially the Republic of Ghana, is a country located in Western Africa. It is boarded by Ivory Coast to its west, Burkina Faso to its north, Togo to its east and to its south are the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital is the beautiful city of Accra. And its current president is Nana Akufo-Addo, elected president in 2016.

During colonial times, Ghana was a part of the British Empire. It however got its independence from the UK in 1957. It was the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to get independence. Ghanaian independence was gotten after much riots and its independence was championed by the likes of Kwame Nkrumah and Joseph B. Danquah. For years after its independence, Ghana had been through some stints of political instability. But it since the 1992, the country has been one of Africa most stable democracies. Interestingly too, Ghana is one nation that has never witnessed a civil war in its history.

Ghana has a population of 27 million people, amongst which there are various tribes. These include the Ashanti, the Anyi, the Fante, the Baule, and the Guang. Ghana has been successful at deescalating ethnic tensions and de-emphasizing ethnic differences.

Economically, Ghana is one of Africa’s most important economies. Its GDP per capita is $1,607, and its GDP is $43bn. Ghana has plenty of mineral resources. It is the second largest producer of cocoa globally and possesses a large supply of gold.
