Big Brother Nigeria, BBN or BBNaija, has suddenly become one of the most talked about shows in Nigeria. Why? What is so special about BBNaija? What is the show all about even?

To start off with, Big Brother Nigeria is a reality TV show that features 20 housemates living together for 92 days. Now during this 92 days, housemates have to accomplish different tasks in the show. But BBNaija tasks are simple fun things like cooking indomie, making a presentation on a serious topic, acting a play, or just running around doing nothing really.

But nobody really watches BBNaija for the tasks. The tasks are simple formalities to keep the house fun. No, what viewers care about really is the drama and the seduction that goes on between housemates.

For instance in the last two series, BBNaija has featured 40 housemates who smoked, drank, partied on weekends and had sex with each other until they were booted off the show.

Just like the naughtier Big Brother Africa, these issues are the main reason why BBNaija is so much talked about.

Just in case you are wondering, housemates are supposed to be chosen after several auditions across the country. Although these auditions make it seem as though housemates are picked from the crowd, they’re really not. To get into the BBNaija house, all contestants are (rumored) preselected to ensure the best chances of drama in the house.

For instance, CeeC, the controversial housemate from the 2018 edition was rumoured to have been selected due to her ties to the show’s host. While Bisola from the 2017 edition was already relatively famous before she entered the house.

So if anybody thought they would get a “grass to grace” opportunity and enter this vanity fair, there’s no chance that this will happen. I’s easier to win N200 million in Nairabet five times than to get into the BBNaija through auditions.

And BBNaija 2019 promises to be no different.

Now in the eyes of some, BBNaija is just a vanity fair that offers little to educate or inspire anybody. Of course, these folks are right and they deserve a place with the gods. But the truth is very few people care!

Many young people just are literarily waiting to soak up and talk about whatever drama the latest BBNaija edition provides.

So if you don’t care about the show, do yourself a favour, mute it on your timeline, because you’ll soon be greeted with a lot of #BBNaija hashtags.
