U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Monday expressed his hope that his country would consider removing Chad from a travel restrictions list imposed by President Donald Trump’s administration.

Tillerson made the remarks in a joint press briefing with Chad’s Foreign Minister Mahamat Zene (zen) Cherif in the African country’s capital, N’Djamena.

Tillerson says the visa restrictions were necessary because of “all the conflict that exists on Chad’s borders.”

The Secretary of State praised Chad for taking important measures towards strengthening control of its passports issuance to improve information sharing.

Tillerson said he believes those steps will “allow us to begin to normalize the travel relationship with Chad.”

The decision will however have to wait a final report that the U.S. will prepare later in March.

On Zene’s part, he said that Chadian President Idriss Deby had “expressed his incomprehension” to Tillerson about the restrictions.

Trump’s administration imposed the travel restrictions in September, also including Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
