2019 is already off to an interesting start – thanks to social media. An egg went on to become the most liked picture on Instagram (beating Kylie Jenner’s previously held record), Netflix had to issue a warning against people blindfolding themselves as part of the Bird Box challenge, and in the last 24-hours, the #10YearChallenge kicked off. If you happened to open your Instagram or Facebook account recently, then you would have noticed a barrage of posts dedicated to the social media craze – from celebrities, friends and probably that cool nephew who is not even 18. Here’s everything you need to know about the challenge to help you play catch up:
The latest internet frenzy movement involves posting a picture of yourself that was taken 10 years ago (2007-2009) and placing it next to one that is taken in 2019. The challenge is also called #HowHardDidAgingHitYou, and we are hoping it is in the harmless self-deprecating way. Although things took a turn towards the positive when it quickly got dubbed as the #GlowUp challenge – referring to how well people have aged.
As is always with social media challenges, it is a little unclear on who or what started the movement. But it has probably to do with Facebook’s feature that brings back old memories on your wall.
Anyone and everyone who is willing to share a picture of themselves from 10-years ago. Just remember that there were no filters then. Famous names so far include Jessica Biel, who seems to be ageing in reverse; Cardi B, she put out a video of herself performing to a Lady Gaga song in high school and Pharrell Williams, who looks like nothing’s changed:
